Children go free at Shepton Mallet Prison this summer
Families looking for a different day out during the school holidays can visit Shepton Mallet Prison this summer with children receiving free entry as part of the attraction’s Summer Family Offer: Kids Go Free & Eat Free.
Available until 1 September 2026, the offer allows up to two children aged 5–15 to receive free Prison Entry with every paying adult. Children under five continue to receive free admission year-round.
As an example, two paying adults visiting with three children aged 5–15 would save £36 on Prison Entry compared with purchasing standard admission tickets.
Eligible children can also receive a free children’s snack box in the on-site café, subject to offer terms and conditions.
For families looking for something beyond the usual summer attractions, Shepton Mallet Prison offers the chance to step inside more than 400 years of prison history together. The largely indoor attraction provides a weather-independent day out, with visitors free to discover the prison at their own pace before relaxing in the on-site café. Well-behaved dogs are also welcome. Guided Tours and Escape Rooms are available for those wishing to enhance their visit, subject to availability and additional charges.
Charlie Lawson, Attraction Director at Shepton Mallet Prison, said:
“Parents are always looking for something different to do during the summer holidays, and we know family days out can quickly become expensive. We wanted to make it easier for more families to experience Shepton Mallet Prison together, whether they’re local to Somerset or visiting the area.
It’s somewhere children can explore, ask questions and discover stories they probably wouldn’t come across anywhere else. We often hear from parents that it’s one of the places their children keep talking about long after the visit, and that’s exactly what we’d hope for from a family day out.”
Tickets can be booked online or purchased on arrival, subject to availability. For full terms and conditions click here.
