Your Halloween sentence is to dance

Bringing friends who never agree on the playlist? That’s one thing you don’t need to fear this Halloween. You can each switch channels whenever you like, so you can dance together while choosing your own soundtrack.

With your silent disco headphones, you can switch between three music channels at the touch of a button:

  • Cell Block Anthems: Singalong classics, pop favourites and crowd-pleasing party hits from the 80s through to today. This is the channel where everyone knows the words.
  • New Release: Current hits, modern pop, house, drum & bass and dance remixes for those who want the latest sounds.
  • Old School: 90s and 00s pop, indie, dance classics and guilty pleasures guaranteed to bring back memories.

Change channels whenever you like—or stay loyal to your favourite all night.

Welcome to the jurisdiction of Governor Grim

This Halloween, Shepton Mallet Prison becomes a party unlike anything else in town, with music, monsters and mayhem taking over B Wing.

Governor Grim will welcome you, keep an eye on the inmates (and any unexpected guests), introduce shared moments throughout the session and officially close the prison at the end. Your only escape… is the music.

  • Gates open: 4.30pm for Early Frights | 8pm for Fright Night
  • Please arrive during the 30-minute entry period before your session. Check in at the Visitor Centre to collect your wristband and headphones before entering B Wing.
  • Last entry: 6.30pm for Early Frights | 9.30pm for Fright Night

Scare actors will roam the prison wing throughout each session, so keep one eye on the crowd—and keep looking over your shoulder.

You won’t be dancing alone…

See the prison like never before as scare actors roam the dancefloor and hide inside cells. Dare to stop one for a photo?

First things first—choose your character:

  • Will you dance like Wednesday Addams?
  • Stalk the dancefloor like Chucky?
  • Or stand perfectly still like Hannibal Lecter?

Whatever you choose, there’s one thing you won’t need to worry about: the music.

Switch between tracks and genres throughout the night and dance your way through the prison.

Important event information

This event includes sudden scares, loud music through headphones, flashing lighting effects, atmospheric effects and periods of darkness. It may not be suitable for guests with epilepsy or other sensitivities to flashing lights.

Bag checks will take place on arrival.

Please read the full event terms and conditions before booking.

What is a silent disco?

Instead of music playing through speakers, everyone receives a pair of wireless headphones. You can switch between three different music channels and control your own volume.

Do my friends and I have to listen to the same channel?

No. Everyone chooses their own soundtrack and can change channel at any time. The colour of each person’s headphones shows which channel they are listening to.

When should I arrive?

Gates open 30 minutes before each session: 4.30pm for Early Frights and 8pm for Fright Night. Enter through the Visitor Centre to check in and collect your wristband and headphones.

Please allow enough time to complete the arrival and bag-check process before your session begins.

Do I have to wear fancy dress?

Fancy dress is encouraged but not compulsory. Governor Grim will host the Halloween fancy-dress competition, with the winners decided by the loudest cheers—and prizes up for grabs.

Will food and drink be available?

Yes. A bar will be open during each session, serving alcoholic and soft drinks, including blood-bag cocktails and other Halloween favourites. Crisps and other bagged snacks will also be available. Shepton Mallet Prison is a cashless venue, so all purchases must be made by card or contactless payment.

Is there a cloakroom?

Yes. A cloakroom will be available on site. Please follow staff instructions when you arrive.
