From 23rd to 31st May 2026, a seasonal offer means adults can visit for the same price as children, making it a more accessible option for a family day out. Visits are self-paced, so you can take your time discovering the site at your own pace. 

Exploring the prison 

A standard visit gives access to key areas including cell blocks and exercise yards, offering a glimpse into what daily life was once like behind bars. With centuries of history within its walls, the setting has a strong sense of atmosphere that helps bring the past to life—particularly for older children. 

Adding an extra challenge 

For something more interactive, the prison’s escape rooms offer a hands-on experience focused on teamwork and problem-solving. 

The Cell challenges you to escape from a real prison cell within 60 minutes, while The Hole offers a darker, more intense experience inside a historic punishment cell, using limited light and a torch to guide you. 

These can be added to your visit, depending on how much time you’d like to spend on site.

Guided tours are also available for those who want to explore the prison’s past in more depth. Led by knowledgeable guides, they share real stories and historical context that bring the building—and the people who lived and worked there—to life.
